International and AGT International were commissioned by the Ministry and
Environment to Provision of Consultancy Services to conduct Capacity Building
Activities of farmers and farmer groups in Agribusiness, Skills, Commodity
Bulking and Collective Marketing in Water Catchment Areas of LOT 2: Mubuku II
in Kasese District, Doho II in Butaleja District and Ngenge in Kween District under FIEFOC-2 Project funded by
African Development Bank (AfDB). The project consists of four components
namely: (i) Agriculture Infrastructure Development; (ii) Agribusiness
Development; (iii) Integrated Natural Resources Management; and (iv) Project
Management. It is envisaged that the Project would lead to increase in yields
of major crops by 50% and per capita incomes of the target population
specifically women by an average of 10%. In particular, a greater percentage
(50%s) of the start-up enterprises and income generating activities from
natural resources, capacity building and service delivery of the project would
specifically target women and youth whose incomes are expected to increase by
an average of 30%; thus, enhancing their socio-economic status through improved
standard of living. The project will benefit further 300,000 households of
which 20% are female headed outside of irrigation command areas. The overall
objective of the consultancy assignment to mobilize
4500 farmers and build their capacities in agribusiness skills, commodity
bulking and collective marketing of the
target value chains. Specifically,
the project will achieve the following objectives;
§ Training
and equipping 75 farmer cooperatives in agribusiness skills but prior rapid
assessment of the farmers whose capacities need to be enhanced must be
undertaken.
§ Develop
training materials, guide books and business operational guidelines.
§ Enhance the capacity of 4500 farmers in commodity
bulking, collective marketing & establishment of sustainable market
linkages
§ Training of 4500 farmers in business planning and
financial management
