Governance Systems International (Uganda) was contracted by the Ministry of Water and
Environment to provide Consulting
Services for Facilitating Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) for the
Development of Water Reservoirs in the Karamoja Sub-region, Uganda. Lot 1:
Nangololapolon in Kotido District. The Free Prior Informed
Consent (FPIC) for development of water reservoirs in the Karamoja Sub-Region,
Uganda consists of Financial Participatory Approach (FPA) an innovative
participatory methodology involving and motivating communities through a series
of cooperative competitions and decision-making process through own jury to
develop the best small-scale projects according to their own judgement. The
objective is to develop maximum ownership and trust in view of reaching
informed consent. FPA implementation tasks include the following: site visits,
community information, Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) exercise, series of 3
contests and awards, support for self-implementation of community &
livelihood projects, and follow up.
