USAID Uganda Feed the Future, Inclusive Agricultural Markets Activity (FtF IAM): Consultancy to conduct the sector-wide study on the Uganda Dairy industry in Northern, Eastern, South western, and Central Uganda. With the support from USAID, DAI Global Inc is implementing a five-year Activity (The Feed the Future Uganda Inclusive Agricultural Market Activity - FtF IAM) which seeks to increase incomes and improve the livelihoods of households through agriculture-led inclusive economic growth.
The Activity focuses on 38 districts in three regions (Northern, (including Karamoja sub-region), Eastern, and South-western Uganda). Governance Systems International was contracted by DAI Global Inc. to conduct a sector-wide study on the Uganda Dairy industry in Northern, Eastern, South western, and Central Uganda. The main aim of the study was to conduct an industry-wide study on the dairy sector to gather relevant information that (1) to unearth and validate information on the key bottlenecks, opportunities and potential in the sector and (2) to provide recommendations for the industry growth and (3) assess the commercial availability and success of these models, such as private extension support or value chain financing to farmers and aggregators.
It is clear that the information generated from the
study will serve the purpose of
establishing a status profile which will guide in setting realistic
implementation targets and in identifying focused technical interventions,
defining the baseline situation and key performance indicators to serve as a
benchmark for measuring the achievements of the relevant programme outputs, and
also guide the eventual monitoring and impact evaluation, and external
programme supervision and evaluation systems.
